Linking the eHealth Certificate

Almost every advanced feature in Sophia, such as approvals, attestations, billing modules, and secure communication, needs a valid eHealth certificate. Does something suddenly stop working, for no clear reason? Then this is usually the first place to check. This guide explains what this certificate is, why you need it, and how to link it, step by step.

Why Does This Exist?

eHealth is the secure platform Sophia uses to communicate with RIZIV/INAMI and the mutualities on your behalf, for example to send an attestation, or request an approval. To be allowed to do this, Sophia needs to be able to electronically identify itself as you, the therapist.

This happens through a digital certificate: a small file uniquely linked to you, acting as a kind of digital ID card. You request this certificate yourself from eHealth, and then link it in Sophia.

Linking It, Step by Step

Step 1: request your certificate from eHealth

This happens outside Sophia, directly with eHealth. You'll receive a file with extension .p12, along with a password.

Step 2: go to Integrations in Sophia

Click Settings, then Integrations.

Step 3: start the registration

Click Register eHealth. Have you already linked a certificate before, and want to replace it? Then you'll see Update eHealth instead.

Step 4: fill in your national number

Step 5: select your certificate file

Choose the .p12 file you received from eHealth.

Step 6: fill in the password

This is the password that belongs to your certificate, not your Sophia password.

Step 7: save

Click Save.

Is something wrong, for example an incorrect password or an invalid file? Then Sophia immediately shows a clear error message, so you know what to fix.

Does Your Certificate Expire Eventually?

WARNING

An eHealth certificate isn't valid forever. Sophia doesn't automatically warn you about this though: you'll only notice because features suddenly stop working.

Did you receive a new certificate from eHealth, for example because the old one expired? Just repeat the same steps as above, but click Update eHealth instead of Register eHealth.

How Do You Recognize This Problem?

Notice one of these things, for no clear reason? Check your eHealth certificate first:

  • Sending an eAttest or eFact fails, or shows no attestation number.
  • Requesting or consulting an eAgreement keeps hanging, or shows no result.
  • The Fetch Member Data button gives no result.
